Above are picture of a deck that is less than 2 years old, and has already been stained by a local company that is famous for putting up signs all over our metro area. They offer a 3 year warranty, according to this homeowner, but since they had changed ownership the new owner didn’t want to honor the warranty. The homeowner agreed to buy the product himself, and pay them another $800 for the labor to stain their deck again.
As you can see by the photos, the stain, now less than 1 year old doesn’t seem to be holding up that well, and oops they missed a few spots! That wasn’t the only areas they missed by any means either.
We cleaned the stain off and and applied SealRx. Now this homeowner can enjoy the natural beauty of this new cedar deck, without the hassle of yearly staining and sealing of the deck.

We recently installed new floors in the men’s and women’s shower areas in the Overland Park Planet Fitness. SealMasters was chosen over other options for our ability to get in and quickly install the floors and get them retunred to service in just over a day.
Planet Fitness was extremely satisfied with the results when owner Jerome called back after seeing the floors and telling me that the are “Awesome”. Planet Fitness rarely closes, but found it necessary to do some other maintenance. They closed their doors Saturday night at 8 PM and planned to re-open at 6 AM on Monday morning, ready for business.
Our larger than normal floor crew showed up at about 7:30 and had the floors ground, coated, and chipped, leaving the site at about 2:15 AM on Sunday morning. We returned about 11 AM and were packed up and leaving by 1:30 PM. Patrons could have showed and used the floors by 3 PM, ready for use a full 15 hours ahead of schedule.

For all those that read our updates regularly, you’ll see that June was light on blog posts. After several months of intense day to day participation, training, and on-site work with our crews, it had been the plan to relax a little in the month of June and focus on other aspects of growing SealMasters beyond Kansas City. I also worked in a few days of vacation in Colorado, and had an incredible 4th of July weekend fireworks display at the house.
The month of June allowed me to meet with lots of leaders of business in and out of the Kansas City area. Highlights of the month include breakfast with Will Bowen, best selling author of A Complaint Free World and continuing meetings with the fine folks at Guier Fence. A lunch with an Entrepreneur Magazine-entrepreneur of the year, should happen sometime this month.
We also took the next step, and will begin sealing the concrete at Community America Credit Unions in the month of July. 15 locations will be slated for concrete sealing protection by SealMasters.

I’ve recently been asked about other “penetrating” sealers that are being offered at lower prices than SealMasters, but are basically the same thing. Let me tell you that they are not the same!
Some key differences include:
1. Does the driveway need to be re-sealed? Some offer a low initial price, then set you up on a maintenance plan. I call this the “re-do concrete” plan. The plan that keeps paying and paying, them that is.
2. If they have a long warranty, how long has their product been in use? What does that warranty cover? If it’s a product only warranty, you may as well do it yourself, and get some product at the hardware store. At least if you have a problem, you’ll most likely be able to go to find the store.
3. What is the track record of their product? How many years and environments has their product been used on?
4. No warranty on their installation or product? It seems like they could simply spray water or some other substance on and call it good to me.
Make no mistake, nobody offers the product, service, installation, and guarantee that SealMasters does in Kansas City. We’ve always worked with clients to get them the best value possible.

With the unofficial start to summer just a couple days away, I’ve spent a little time reviewing the numbers and reflecting on an extremely busy spring.
We’ve completed all manning for our teams and office staff, with all of our regulars back. With 17 employees, SealMasters is fully staffed and ready for your projects. We’re fielding 5 or 6 teams daily, when it doesn’t rain (ugh). We’ve been running 2 sealing teams since the start of the year to keep up, and reduce our backlog. Expanded our epoxy team(s) and running the largest crews for sanding and staining yet. We’ve even added office staff to keep up with the phones.
The result, so far we’re up 51.1% over last year to date, and 23.4% over 2008 YTD. A record spring for SealMasters! We hope everybody enjoys the long weekend, and all our employees are off, and enjoying the 3 day break.

The garage floors turned out great. I was just bragging on them in the break room with a few of the guys here at Sports Radio 810. As much as I like doing things myself, I can’t tell you how glad I am that I didn’t attempt to take on this project myself as I did in my previous home. I still remember the sore back, sore knees, and sore hands from doing it myself before and that was several years ago and the savings in doing it myself were minimal after buying the expensive products that were required. Your installers were great too. They were prompt, courteous, and took pride in the finished product.
I don’t plan on moving anytime soon but if I do, I will call SealMasters of Kansas City and have my garage floor professionally finished!!
